A recent book by Emily Evans Eerdmans, “Mario Buatta:Anatomy of a Decorator” details the construction of the late, great designer’s signature picture-hanging bow, made from fabric.

His method inspired me to make some fabric bows of my own, using leftover Houndstooth & Botanico yardage. You can see the outcome in the photo above, and a quick tutorial for this bow HERE.

No one knows better than a stylist how to wrap the perfect package! We tapped Brooklyn-based expert Julie Dumas-Rose for some pro tips. Julie says:

” How to tie the perfect bow? It’s as simple as wrapping your second ribbon over top of the first loop, rather than coming from below. My natural instinct with tying bows is to always come from below, but if you tie from below, your bow will end up sideways!”TRY THIS AT HOME

That’s a wrap!

I hope you’re as tickled as I was to learn the history of bows.

In the course of drafting this newsletter, I made over a dozen bows from leftover fabric, and have enjoyed finding uses for them around the house. I can attest that finding a bow in an unexpected place (over the toilet, in a shoe, on a cereal box) WILL bring a touch of joy to you & yours! My wish for all of us this holiday season is to let go of perfectionism & enjoy a little silliness.

See you in the new year,

Hannah
